We’re doing a study here on Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at the well. There are certain motivations that she had in her life. There are certain motivations we have in our life, even the sluggard in Proverbs has a motivation to do as little work as possible and second Timothy talks about many how they are motivated by pleasure, the things of this world. Many organizations and businesses exist to improve people’s qualities of life. That’s their mission. [...]
This morning we learn of Jesus going to Samaria to speak and witness to a woman at the well and in so doing He breaks several social barriers and prejudices. The Jews frowned upon the Samaritans but we see that Jesus doesn’t. In fact later in His ministry when He teaches on loving others He uses a Samaritan as an example, in contrast to the apathetic Jewish Levites and priests. [...]
As you know the major theme of John chapter 3 is the necessity of being born again and believing in Christ for eternal life. We remember from last week that Jesus did not come to condemn us but to rescue us because we’re already condemned. We are all under the wrath of God from birth. We see in our passage that Christians should follow the example set by Jesus and John and avoid competing with one another in the ministry, as born again Christians who are following Christ. [...]
Have you ever had mice in your home? In several of our homes we’ve had mice. Currently my study is in the basement of our house and we have mice. The other evening I saw one dart into some insulation and another time I saw him or cousin, brother, sister I don’t know what it [...]
A young man spent an entire evening describing to a young woman his deep love for her. He said he’d provide the greatest vacations for her. He told her he would go through fire for her. He would be tortured for her. He would provide all she needed in life. He would put her interests before his own. And they said goodnight for the evening and he prepared to depart. He told her that he would visit her tomorrow if…
Have you ever traveled with someone who does not follow instructions very well, who doesn’t stop to get directions but thinks he knows the way? My wife has. Nowadays people use a GPS to direct them to their destination, and have you ever used one and in the middle of nowhere with nothing but fields [...]
America is a religious society and most in our nation consider themselves to be a good person who will go to heaven when they die. Likely the majority of those attending a church service this morning believe that God looks upon them with favor and that they will be with Him forever when they die. But we know that’s not the case. Those who read the Bible should understand that’s not the case.
Would you will please open up God’s Word with me to John chapter 2:12-25. Jesus is going to show us here that He is superior to the temple. As we read through various books and messages by various pastors, and watch assorted video clips we understand that what is often called a church and a [...]
Please open up God’s Word with me to John chapter 2. We’re focusing in on versus 1-12 this morning. Our message is Compassion and Glory at a Wedding. What was the most memorable event at a wedding that you attended? Perhaps it was like one of those funniest videos that you see where the groom [...]
In our passage we’re introduced to several men who are converted to Christ and will later become apostles. All Christians are called disciples, which means a learner, someone who’s devoted to Christ. The apostles were 12 men personally selected by Jesus to be trained and to build the church and they were used to write the new testament, except for Judas who fulfills the prophesy of a traitor.
